成為導演之前，姜秀瓊累積了相當完整的電影學習；從演出《牯嶺街少年殺人事件》入圍當屆金馬獎女配角獎，之後從事多年電影幕後工作 (參與楊德昌導演的《獨立時代》《一一》，侯孝賢導演的《海上花》《千禧曼波》等片)，逐步展開她堅定的電影創作之路。紮實的經歷融合了個人的女性角度與溫潤見地，充分掌握生活中細微的動人之處。

 
2008年編劇導演劇情短片《跳格子》，一舉囊括台灣三大影展的大獎，並入圍法國國際影展；劇情長片《艾草》更獲得2009年舊金山國際電影節最佳電視電影獎等諸多國際獎項肯定。拍攝三年完成的新作《乘著光影旅行》，也將引領觀眾看見影像力量背後的生命痕跡。

Before her career as a director, Chiang Hsiu-Chiung had a wide range of film experiences both on and behind the screen.  She began as an actor, her debut in Edward Yang’s “A Brighter Summer Day” winning her a nomination in Taiwan's Golden Horse Award for Best Supporting Actress.  She later worked behind the scene next to world-renowned Taiwanese directors: with Edward Yang on “A Confucian Confusion” and “Yi Yi”, and with Hou Hsiao- Hsien on “Flowers of Shanghai” and “Millennium Mambo”.
 
With her solid cinematic experiences and female perspective, she captures and celebrates the delicate facets of life in her works.  In 2008, she wrote and directed the short “Hopscotch” and garnered all major film awards in Taiwan and was nominated for best short film in France.  Her feature film “Artemisia” further gained her international recognition, including the Golden Gate Award at San Francisco International Film Festival.
 
After three years in production, her latest documentary film “Let the Wind Carry Me” invites the audiences to observe the traces of life behind powerful cinematography.
